In my research I am investigating the use of time-based media by artists in the UK from the 1960s to the present day focusing on the exhibitions which laid the foundations for the curation of video-art, digital installations and time-based media.
By establishing the history of exhibitions of this type in the UK, I will be able to analyse the timeline from David Hall’s TV Interruptions in the early 1970’s, to exhibitions curated in the past year such as Philip Jeck’s improvised audio-visual performance at FACT, Liverpool in 2017 and ‘Everything at Once’ at 180 The Strand, London.
This will give me a basis from which to situate myself in the paradigm of the exhibition and preservation of time-based media.
